Research on the Testing Model for the Environmental Carrying Capacity of Urban Landscapes

This research meticulously explores the environmental carrying capacity of urban landscapes, with a detailed case study of Beijing. Utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis and Ecological Footprint Analysis, the study assesses various dimensions of Beijing’s urban environment, including land use, carbon emissions, green spaces, and resource consumption. Key findings indicate that Beijing has managed to maintain a relatively low building coverage rate at 21%, indicating efficient land use and preservation of green spaces amidst urban expansion. Despite this, the city faces significant challenges with high CO2 emissions, at 115,000 tons, signaling the need for enhanced efforts in reducing reliance on fossil fuels and increasing green energy usage. The research also highlights Beijing’s commendable green space management, with per capita green area at 14 sq. m, and robust public transit coverage at 81%, exemplifying effective urban planning and sustainability practices. However, per capita waste generation and water consumption rates suggest areas requiring focused improvement efforts towards sustainability.
