Lowering the risk associated with ecological and environmental issues enables farmers to minimize output, protect the resource base, and maintain both their economic and familial needs. It presents a significant chance to improve rural communities’ ability to generate income and jobs. Odisha is a rice-growing state but some parts of Odisha like rainfed upland areas of different districts suffer, as rainfall is not sufficient to grow a rice crop. In this condition, rural communities generally leave their fields fallow or get a rice crop with less yield or sometimes crop loss. In these unfavorable dry spells, climate-resilient techniques such as crop diversification are crucial for making use of fallow land and providing some compensation to the impoverished farmers. Diversity of crops offers plenty of opportunity to deal with problems such as the recurrence of weeds and insects, soil degradation, pollution of the environment, salinity of the soil, decreasing agricultural earnings, and the effects of climate change. It improves a farmer’s net profits, B:C proportion, and overall system efficiency. To maximize agricultural diversification’s benefits, farmers are moving from low-yielding to high-value crops and from low-producing to low-value ones. Thus, goals of nutritional security, growth in the economy, secure food supply, job creation, and the advancement of sustainable agriculture are all likely to be achieved by diversified farming.
