Introduction

Technological development for MASS (Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships), IMO regulations, and related policy are being developed in various ways in the maritime sector. However, there are currently no standards for MASS technologies, and since the IMO's development of the MASS Code is still in progress, not many policies related to MASS have been introduced. In response, this book is divided into three parts (15 chapters), addressing the current discussions based on an awareness of the importance of the three elements: MASS regulation, technology, and policy. Through this, the book aims to foster mutual understanding among different stakeholders and facilitate cooperation and synergy. As MASS regulation, technology, and policy are still evolving, the discussions will be continuously updated to reflect the latest developments.
