Fantasy and Reality
摘要
Interviewees are asked to envision their ideal exhibits. Some dream big: paleoartist John Gurche wishes for a time-machine experience. Others would be content with minor changes to and maintenance of their existing exhibits. The author reveals her personal fantasy but acknowledges the individualized nature of such visions. Returning to reality, this chapter explores a myriad of constraints, especially the big three of money, space, and time. Museums should serve their communities, but communities consist of diverse visitors of various ages. Who is the target audience? Who chooses the themes and content: scientists, educators, designers, artists, administrators, or all together in dynamic interaction? This chapter encourages creative thought while simultaneously emphasizing the significant challenges involved in implementing exhibit construction and modification.
