Clinical Diagnosis of Craniosynostosis: What Is Important for the Surgeon

The diagnosis of craniosynostosis is mainly clinical, based on the specific morphological features the skull develops in case of premature fusion of one or more sutures. However, the clinical examination has some limitations the physician should be aware of. Furthermore, several other elements need to be assessed for a proper diagnosis. In this chapter, we will review the important features to be searched for a clinical diagnosis of craniosynostosis and for the complete assessment of the patient’s clinical condition after the diagnosis of synostosis has been made.
