Lambdoid Suture Synostosis: Endoscopic Approach, Key Points for Neurosurgeons

Lambdoid craniosynostosis is the least common of the nonsyndromic cranial suture synostosis. It is associated with occipital plagiocephaly and causes the ipsilateral ear and mastoid process to be displaced inferiorly in relation to the unaffected side. The forehead is typically round and symmetric in contrast with positional plagiocephaly, which causes frontal plagiocephaly of the contralateral side. It can lead to cranial scoliosis and cranial sagittal imbalance. This condition can be treated with minimally invasive endoscopic suturectomy followed by a cranial molding orthosis. Specific techniques and surgical principles are described in this chapter.
