Cerebellar Tonsils Herniation and Syringomyelia in Craniosynostoses

The anatomy and the morfo-volumetric analysis of the posterior fossa currently raise a great interest among physicians due to the increasing number of diagnosis of Chiari I malformation. Moreover, the coexistence of Chiari I malformation and craniosynostosis represents an association with intriguing physiopathological implications. In this chapter, the pathological changes of the posterior fossa related to craniosynostosis and leading to Chiari I malformation, syringomyelia and hydrocephalus are discussed as well as the clinical, radiological and management aspects.
