摘要
With the Mendelian rediscoveryMendelian rediscovery, the biometry-saltationismbiometry-saltationism debate controversy turned into a heredity debate involving Galton’sGalton, Francis ancestral lawancestral law against Mendel’sMendel, Gregor Johann laws. When BatesonBateson, William read Mendel’sMendel, Gregor Johann paper, he immediately embraced MendelismMendelism since it was aligned with his saltationist viewpoint. The biometriciansbiometrician first attacked MendelismMendelism in a 1902 paper by WeldonWeldon, Walter Frank Raphael. This prompted BatesonBateson, William to respond in a strongly worded book entitled Mendel’sMendel, Gregor Johann Principle of Heredity: A DefenceBateson, WilliamMendel’s Principles of Heredity: A Defence (1902), which also contained an English translation of Mendel’sMendel, Gregor Johann 1866 paper.
