摘要

Crisis communication in sports plays a pivotal role in preserving the integrity and reputation of athletes, teams, and sports organizations during turbulent times. This chapter provides an overview of the objectives, theoretical approaches, and practical strategies underpinning crisis communication within the sports sphere. Drawing from established models such as Image Repair Theory (IRT) and Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT), the chapter provides insights into the importance of crises communication on shaping public perception and the outcomes of crises. The primary aims of crisis communication in sports center on mitigating damage, rebuilding trust, and restoring reputation through deliberate messaging and engagement with stakeholders. Tailored communication strategies are indispensable for navigating diverse crisis scenarios. Successful crisis communication in sports depends on strategic timing, spanning pre-crisis planning, immediate and coherent response actions, and post-crisis recovery endeavors. In conclusion, crisis communication in sports presents both challenges and opportunities for stakeholders to navigate reputational risks and maintain public trust. Through a nuanced understanding of crisis dynamics and a coherent use of communication strategies, athletes, teams, and organizations can effectively navigate crises and emerge resilient in the sports landscape.
