Bernhard Tauchnitz and His Publishing House: A Brief Overview

The Tauchnitz publishing house and its owner, Bernhard Tauchnitz, were a major player in the continental European book trade from the mid-nineteenth century onwards. A brief history of the company from its beginnings in the 1830s through its slow decline in the 1930s to the ultimate end in the 1970s forms the basis for the following chapters of the book, with a particular focus on the final years of the Tauchnitz Verlag.
