Recognizing Risks and Building on Resilience
摘要
Recognizing Risks and Building on Resilience is composed of several subsections related to coaching athletes from differing identities, abilities, and backgrounds. The first subsection, Bridging Generational Gaps, discusses coaches’ engagement of a younger generation of athletes. The following four subsections showcase coaches’ attendance to the physiological and psychological needs of: Female Athletes and LGBTQ+ Players, Neurodiverse Athletes and Players with Physical Challenges, Players Living in Poverty, and High Talent Athletes. After these subsections, Ethnic and Racial Minority Coaches and Players’ experiences of interpersonal and systemic racism as well as the impact of immigration and colonization on disparity in sport will be explored. The last two subsections, Grief and Loss and Addressing the Needs of Coaches, will then be discussed alongside the ways coaches mitigate risk, find balance, and empower teams within the context of facing nearly insurmountable odds.
