Reciprocal Learning Between Canadian and Chinese Sister Schools Through the Compiling of a Bilingual and Cross-Cultural Reading Kit

This chapter discusses a student-centered collaborative project between sister schools in Windsor and Chongqing. They collaborated on compiling a bilingual intercultural reading kit, promoting reciprocal learning among principals, teachers, and students from both countries. University researchers, graduate students, and pre-service teachers from Canada and China also gained insights into reciprocal learning through their participation. Through regular Skype meetings and exchange onsite visits facilitated by Xu’s Teacher Education Reciprocal Learning Program and Xu and Connelly’s Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) partnership grant project, the bilingual reading kit evolved into a student-centered learning activity. It has fostered international intercultural reciprocal learning, strengthened university–school partnerships, and promoted cross-cultural appreciation and understanding between Canadian and Chinese students and educators.
