Future Directions in Telemental Health Care: Science Fiction or Grand Solution?
摘要
The idea that communication technology could be used to increase access to quality mental health care for children and families has existed for more than 100 years. However, over the century, telemental health programs have come and gone in fits and starts. Significant barriers long prevented telemental health from being implemented at scale. Only when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the majority of mental health providers to offer services remotely and reimbursement policies opened to remote health care did we see the possibility that telemental health services might truly increase access to care for a significant number of children. While telemental health care is now poised to increase access to care, several ongoing barriers must yet be overcome. Rushing to fill the service gap are new developments in mental health care that rely on artificial intelligence. Over the next decade, the way in which mental health care is provided is likely to change dramatically. When providers remain informed about technological advances in the field and are advocates for the families they serve, then such changes may offer positive outcomes.
