Gonzalez v. Google and Twitter v. Taamneh on Internet Platform Liability

  • Richard Pacelle

摘要

While we have greater access to information than ever before, some of the content that is posted online might be harmful. It might be false, libelous, obscene, violent, or illegal. Who bears responsibility and liability for injury caused by this content? The question is especially relevant if the user is directed toward it by the platform’s algorithm? In a decision joining a pair of cases with similar facts, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that platforms like Google and Twitter were shielded from liability by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 19.
