Introduction: The 2022–2023 Term at the Supreme Court

The rulings of June 2022 seemed to have announced nothing less than a constitutional revolution. In Dobbs, the Court overruled Roe v. Wade and limited constitutional rights to those “deeply rooted” in history and tradition; in Bruen, the Court introduced a new historical method of judging the boundaries of recognized rights, specifically in the context of individual gun rights under the Second Amendment; in West Virginia v. EPA, the Court announced a new principle limiting the independence of administrative agencies within the federal government; and in Kennedy v. Bremerton, the Court announced a new way of thinking about First Amendment freedoms of religion and speech.
