As a better understanding of the role of stem cell therapy in cellular processes has evolved, it is apparent that a critical role stem cells play in facilitating wound healing is their ability to act in a paracrine fashion to coordinate and modulate many cutaneous signaling pathways. This shift in understanding of the way stem cells modulate the cellular microenvironment led to the recognition of Extracellular VesiclesExtracellular vesicle as a vital mediator between stem cells and other cell types. EVs are recognized as the main mechanism that deliver cellular materials to target cells to coordinate wound healingWound healing following injury. In addition to recruiting and stimulating proliferation of cells, EVs play an anti-inflammatory role in dermatology which is currently being explored as an alternative method of treating conditions such as atopic dermatitisAtopic dermatitis and psoriasisPsoriasis.
