Conducting Clinical Research Remotely Through Technology

Conducting researchResearch remotely is an area of ongoing interest in dermatology. Significant interruptions in researchResearch amid physical distancing requirements during theCovid-19 COVID-19 pandemic drove the development of technologiesTechnology aimed at conducting remote clinical research. Remote clinical research has several potential benefits. Moving clinical research to patient homes may expand the number of patients willing to participate in researchResearch by improving its convenience and reducing travel burdens. The incorporation of technologiesTechnology such as artificial intelligenceArtificial intelligence may also improve the objectivity of clinical research. However, challenges exist, and researchResearch technologies should be designed with these challenges in mind. In this chapter, we provide some background on the importance of implementing remote research modalities. We discuss the pros and cons of moving clinical research to patient homes, and the necessary technological components needed to effectively conduct research remotely.
