Teleassessment Methods in Neurologic Rehabilitation

摘要

Teleassessment and telerehabilitation became reasonable alternatives for practitioners and patients as they could offer insight into the progress and maintenance of an adapted activity level. Research studies on adults with neurologic conditions have an even greater need to implement procedures for minimizing contact and maintaining social distancing, as a majority of individuals with stroke, multiple sclerosis, and spinal cord injury have comorbidities or factors that increase the risk for infection. Additionally, due to limitations with activities of daily living, challenges with transportation, and reliance on caregivers, individuals with neurological impairments face more significant challenges associated with multiple study visits. In this sense, assessing people with neurological illnesses’ physiological, physical, and social functioning might aid in the appropriate therapeutic decision-making process. Using ICF (International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health) in neurological physiotherapy and rehabilitation makes it possible to classify, select, and interpret appropriate evaluation methods more easily. The three main components of the ICF emphasize how crucial it is for internal and external elements to interact and affect each person’s health. These components are body functions and structures, activities and participation, and personal and environmental factors. Body functions and structure impairments define issues with the structure and functioning of the body, such as a significant loss or deviation. Activity and participation limitations define difficulties a person might encounter when participating in life situations and carrying out daily tasks.
