摘要

Social dimensions notably influence the disease dynamics and outcomes in the case of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). Integrating social work into NTD interventions can be helpful in addressing this ‘socially constructed’ aspect of NTDs. Social workers, with their understanding of socio-cultural dynamics, community engagement skills and advocacy for policy changes, can effectively address the factors for NTD prevalence and its impact on the affected communities. However, social work is often under-recognised in NTD interventions due to multiple factors ranging from those within the social work profession to those in the healthcare system. Establishing NTD social work requires efforts in training, standardising practices, research, advocacy, infrastructure development and partnerships.
