The chapter proposes an initial description for UX design practice. It characterises the latter in terms of everyday language. It comprises—design, as UX design representation; practice, as UX practice and UX performance, as both skill and training, as well as the act of doing something regularly or repeatedly to improve one’s skill in so doing; design practice, as specify UX representations; state, as UX design practice state; critique and challenge, as UX design practice, and UX design practice research, as acquisition and validation of implicit as well as explicit UX knowledge to support UX design practice. Together they constitute the basis for the initial UX description to be carried forward for application to the UX practitioner source material in later chapters.
