The chapter proposes an initial description for UX. It characterises UX, with respect to user experience, in terms of everyday language. It comprises—user, as someone, who uses human–computer technology to do something, as intended, which results in a user experience comprising conscious events and the knowledge and skills derived from them; movement, as professional change and development of a group of people working together to advance their shared user experience ideas; problem, as user experience design problem and user experience design solution, such as to specify and to implement human–computer technology; state, as of user experience; critique and challenge, as of user experience and user experience research, as acquiring and validating implicit and explicit knowledge to support design practice. Together they constitute the basis for the initial UX description to be carried forward for application to the UX practitioner source material in later chapters. The carry-forward from this chapter and Chaps. 2 and 3 appears in Appendix 1.

摘要
