Menstruation Effect on Well-Being: Exploring the Mediating Role of Physical Pain and Psychological Anguish
摘要
The current study examines how the menstrual cycle, particularly the pre-menstrual and during menstrual periods, affects physical pain and psychological anguish, which in turn causes an imbalance in well-being. The qualitative study is critical because it delves deeper into the literature on menstruation by carefully examining the process (mediating variables) that results in the imbalance of well-being. Additionally, this is one of the first studies to include Indian women who stay in hostels as study subjects. The study conducts in-depth interviews with 28 doctoral candidates living in the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi’s hostel. Themes identified through interpretative thematic analysis include being away from home, using sanitary items, health-seeking behavior, unawareness, and the attitude–behavior gap.
