Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems have been the most predominant and favorable modes of renewable energy. Innovations in the PV industry have been exponential. One such concept, even though still in its infancy, is floating photovoltaic (FPV). Floating solar photovoltaic technology has been gaining attention as a cost-effective alternative to land-based PV (LPV) systems. A floating solar photovoltaic (FPV) is placed directly on top of a body of water, as opposed to on land or on building rooftops. It does not take up land; bodies of water provide cooling and reduced shading, incur reduced grid interconnection costs, lead to reduced water evaporation, etc. Here, we are only interested in how much more efficient the FPV system is when compared to a conventional land-based PV system. Our experiments have shown that there was an increase in efficiency of 0.3% and a power gain of 1.6 W, thus proving that FPV systems have higher efficiency than land-based PV systems.

摘要
