摘要

Marine macroalgae, often known as marine greens, are a varied group of photosynthetic organisms that play a crucial role in marine ecosystems and have great potential for sustainable use in energy, health, and environmental fields. Although they are ecologically important and useful, their full potential has not been fully utilized, which requires additional scientific and technological research. This chapter explores the present understanding of marine greens, emphasizing their varied chemical composition, ecological importance, past use, current uses, and future possibilities. Their significance lies in their contribution to primary production, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity, as well as their promise in biofuels, biomedicine, and as a sustainable food supply. The chapter further discusses the difficulties in increasing the use of these resources on a larger scale, as well as the importance of having complete policies and regulations in place to exploit their maximum potential effectively and sustainably.
