Stress Nexus: Theoretical-Legal and Empirical Notes on the Right to Food and Renewable Energy Sources in Agri-Food Production in Cuba

The use of renewable energy sources is imperative for human subsistence. The high dependence on fossil fuels in the industry leads us to rethink the existence of a better future. Agricultural production, which is intricately linked to the right to food, does not escape dependence on non-renewable energy sources. Meanwhile, in Cuba, the Caribbean State shows public policies that have aimed at changing the energy matrix, which depends on fossil fuels, so that renewable energies play a key role. From a practical point of view, the energy transition in the agri-food industry in Cuba proves its impact on productivity and food quality. It undoubtedly generates higher incomes and access to production equipment, improves the working conditions of people, and contributes to environmental protection. The research is configured as a theoretical-legal and empirical approach to using renewable energy sources in food production, highlighting Cuba’s novel approaches and contributions to the food-energy nexus from the National Plan and the Food Sovereignty Law.
