Green Approach for Biopolymer-Based Food Packaging Films Enhanced by Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles
摘要
Food packaging and food contact materials are products that may come into contact with food, such as utensils, household items, or containers used to store or transport food. Nanocomponents can improve or impart functional properties due to the active nature of the packaging material. Biopolymers, derived from animal or plant sources, are used to produce bioplastics and include polysaccharides, proteins, and lipids. These components offer environmental benefits in terms of recyclability and reusability. Incorporating active substances such as antioxidants or antimicrobials has a positive effect on food quality and stability. Zinc oxide nanoparticles exhibit similar benefits and other valuable properties, including improved barrier properties and mechanical strength. The origin of nanoparticles plays a crucial role; thus, green synthesis using plant extracts is a promising method to obtain environment-friendly bio-based packaging for food applications.
