Biopolymeric Nanoparticles for Agricultural Applications: Note from Editors

Agriculture sector faces a severe challenge related to sustainability, food safety, increasing production, and the depletion of natural resources. Biopolymer nanoparticles are an attractive tool to address these issues due to their biodegradability, biocompatibility, and low toxicity. They have the potential to improve crop production, reduce the quantity of agrochemicals, and minimize risks to consumers while also improving soil quality. This chapter focuses on the potential importance and advanced techniques in synthesis, characterization, and application of biopolymer nanoparticles in agriculture. First, we investigate the application of biopolymeric nanoparticles as nanofertilizers, nanopesticides, and nanoinsecticides for crop protection. We then explore the use of these nanoparticles for improving soil and delivering nutrients. Additionally, the function of biopolymeric nanoparticles was examined for seed treatment, including coating and germination. In brief, this chapter emphasizes how biopolymeric nanoparticles have the potential to significantly transform agricultural practices by enhancing soil management, crop protection, seed treatment, and nutrient delivery.
