Collaboration Through Creative Research

This chapter focuses on the three unique strands within my creative research methodology that incorporate Theatre and Dance for the Very Young (TDVY) audiences directly into the creation process: non-verbal research with a focus on dance, verbal research with a focus on inquiry and imagination, and observation-based research with a focus on visual art, music, or tactile investigation. For each of these strands, I outline the design approach, the role of the research team and research participants, and logistic considerations. I begin with this portion of my methodology because it is the core of why and how I make performance work for very young audiences.
