Extracellular Vesicles from Obese Adipose Tissue and Their Relationship with the Development of Comorbidities

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have emerged as key players in intercellular communication and metabolic regulation, with potential implications for obesity and related health problems. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of current research on EVs released from adipose tissue, including their composition and molecular content. It highlights the dynamic nature of EVs secretion in response to pathophysiological states and discusses the potential impact of EVs on metabolic regulation, obesity-associated inflammatory diseases, and the extracellular matrix (ECM), which is a key component in the development of obesity and its comorbidities due to its remodelling and degradation.
