The Effect of Irresponsible Disposal of Face Masks to the Marine Ecosystem in Port Klang, Malaysia

This research is to study the effects of irresponsible disposal of face masks and to propose the best way to dispose face masks. By using a questionnaire, data from the public in Port Klang has been collected and analyzed. The questionnaires collected the public demographics information, investigated the effect of irresponsible disposal of face masks and proposed the best way to dispose face masks. This study was aimed to suggest the best way to dispose face masks. A total of 396 respondents were collected and were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). The findings are that the best way to dispose face masks is by using incinerators. It is important to know that face masks are contaminated with viruses, blood, or human body fluid. Therefore, the workers’ health and safety must be put as priority in designing the bins.
