Enhancing Tunnel Safety with Artery V2X Simulation for Real-Time Risk Assessment
摘要
Accidents in tunnels are critical due to the challenges of accessing emergency support due to the complex structure of the tunnels or the presence of hazards. Hence, the tunnel control center continually seeks to integrate new approaches to maintain vigilance in detecting potential accidents that could lead to different levels of hazards. In the KITT project, we developed a novel approach to perform a real-time risk assessment to identify any potential harm that could take place inside the tunnel during traffic-sensitive situations. In this approach, the Artery V2X framework is employed to simulate traffic in the Zederhaus Tunnel of Austria's motorway A10 using Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) technology. Therefore, we utilize the generated simulation information (mainly based on the CAM messages); all generated CAMs are used for the real-time assessment approach. This will support enhancing the overall safety monitoring in tunnels and quickly estimating potential hazards due to anticipated accidents.
