Blood and the Circulatory System
摘要
Blood is a vital red bodily fluid, living organ, and living tissue, and without it, there is no life. It knows no boundaries, no color, no race, no religion, no age, no sex, and it has been here for us since the beginning of life. The circulatory system is a closed system that keeps us healthy and alive with a wide range of essential functions. Its three main components are the heart, blood, and blood vessels. Blood is composed of blood plasma (55%), the liquid component of blood, which contains essential proteins, and blood cells (45%) that are suspended in blood plasma. The solid part of the blood consists of red cells called erythrocytes, white cells called leukocytes, and platelets called thrombocytes, and they have different roles that are important in our lives. All solid parts of the blood originate from stem cells, and in adults, blood cells are mainly produced in the bone marrow. Our heart pumps blood through blood vessels, which are part of our closed circulatory system. There are five different types of blood vessels: capillaries, veins, venules, arteries, and arterioles. The blood channel that transports blood to the heart is known as a vein. Compared to arteries, veins’ blood vessel walls are thinner and contain valves. Arteries transport blood away from the heart and toward various organs and tissues. Venules and arterioles are small blood vessels, but the body’s tiniest blood vessel is a capillary. Blood protects us from harmful infections, transports different substances, regulates and maintains the state of homeostasis in our body, etc.
