Advocacy Groups, NGOs, and Social Movements

  • Mustahid Husain

摘要

This chapter explores the involvement of Bangladeshi-Canadian youth in advocacy groups, NGOs, and social movements, addressing issues such as gender equality, intergenerational trauma, and social change. The youth engage with organizations like the National Council of Canadian Muslims, Canadian Council of Muslim Women, and Canadian Interfaith Conversation to promote social justice, interfaith dialogue, and cultural diversity. Overcoming patriarchal traditions and practices within the community is a key concern, along with addressing unprocessed intergenerational trauma through therapy, education, and advocacy. The participants emphasize that meaningful social change begins at home, fostering values of empathy, respect, and equality within families to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society.
