The Challenges of LCA-ERP Integration Withing Industry 4.0: Insights from Moroccan Company

In an industry that is evolving rapidly today, the fusion of leading technologies and strategic methodologies is not just an asset, but a necessity if we are to remain highly successful. At the heart of this revolution, known as Industry 4.0, stands the integration of advanced digital technologies that promise to transform manufacturing and supply chain management processes and product lifecycles with unprecedented efficiency and flexibility. In the framework of Industry 4.0, the paper examines the increasing convergence of LCA and ERP systems, recognizing the significance of environmentally friendly and sustainable production and management practices. Major findings include the identification of various benefits and challenges associated with the integration of LCA into ERP systems, such as improved reporting and visibility, real-time management of environmental impacts and simplification of the risk assessment process. The study also highlights lack of expertise, organizational resistance and the costs associated with employee training as major barriers to integration. The results of the survey of Moroccan companies show that many companies recognize the benefits of improved sustainability performance, as well as the varying degrees of integration of LCA into their ERP systems.
