Concluding Remarks

A key goal in Part I of this book was to outline the design process for creating a course that historically contextualized the geoscience content. I was especially interested in having students develop a more nuanced and robust understanding of NOS while also simultaneously learning core geoscience concepts. As noted in Chaps. 5 and 6 , this historical approach effectively teaches both. Traditionally, these two areas are taught separately, or NOS content is not taught accurately or effectively since it is thought to be something extra to cover after the disciplinary content. However, as addressed in this book, teaching NOS is not something added on; rather, it is intrinsic to teaching the disciplinary material.
