Exploring Moroccan Medical Students’ Perception of Artificial Intelligence

This study evaluates students’ perception of artificial intelligence (AI) and compares their vision with other studies from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) found in the literature. The present study showed that most students had a positive perception of AI but that they had only a limited understanding of how it works. Additionally, the study suggests that there is a need for public education efforts to raise awareness about the potential implications of AI and develop strategies to improve understanding in this area. The main purpose of this study was to explore students’ attitudes towards AI and their degree of knowledge about this technology. We also compared the perspective of Moroccan students with other students from the MENA region. Most participants acknowledged the part AI plays in the medical field but were uncertain about how AI would deal with ethical and social challenges. It is also interesting to note that the majority believed that including AI in training is imperative so they can be prepared for their future practice. Furthermore, this paper indirectly highlight the importance of understanding regional and cultural differences in AI awareness, which should be taken into account when developing educational programmes and resources.
