UWB Slotted Rectangular Antenna Gain Enhancement Using AMC Metasurface Layer for Wireless Communication Devices

A compact slotted-Rectangular Shaped UWB antenna integrated AMC Metasurface has been discussed in this work. For the design, a slotted conventional patch antenna was printed on a low-cost Fr-4-epoxy material with the permittivity, \(\text{tan}\delta \) and thickness ‘h’ are 4.4, 0.02 and 1.6 mm respectively. The overall size of the proposed design is 24.39 × 22.64 mm2. AMC Metasurface unit cell was designed, and it provides two resonance frequencies at 4.91 GHz and 7.51 GHz. In addition, 3 × 3 AMC-MS layer was placed over the antenna in order to improve the radiation performance such as the radiation pattern and the gain. The studied metasurface integrated antenna shows an omnidirectional widespread radiation pattern, a wider bandwidth from 4 GHz to 8.75 GHz, a peak gain of 6.1dBi and a radiation efficiency of 82.34%. Based on those characteristics, the proposed structure validates its relevancy for wireless communication devices area.
