This chapter analyses students’ expectations for their own lives in the future and their perceptions of the importance of some aspects of their lives in the future. Results showed that, across European participating countries, nearly all students hold positive expectations about their own individual future, with most of them believing that they were very likely or likely to find a steady job and earn enough money to start a family. Students’ expectations about their own individual future were, on average, slightly more positive in the International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS) 2022 compared to those reported in ICCS 2016. On average, lower-secondary students considered finding a job they like, being paid in line with their qualifications, having friends, and being economically independent as the most important or important aspects of their future life.
