Comparison Between Two Supply Chain Models for a Multi-site Company

In this paper, a comparative analysis is conducted on two distinct supply chain models within the operational framework of a multi-site corporation. The initial model adopts an autonomous approach, wherein each factory independently manages its ordering and transportation systems. In contrast, the second model involves the establishment of a centralized HUB tasked with overseeing procurement and transportation functions for enhanced operational synergy. Implementing the HUB approach involves introducing a repackaging system transitioning from internal cartons to RFID-tagged outer boxes. This strategy aims to facilitate the timely provision of requisite quantities to all subsidiary units. The reconfigured packaging process is designed to be returnable, facilitated by a traceability system integrated into the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. This system categorizes packaging as a raw material, maintaining a comprehensive database housing references for all boxes. This includes information on their status, encompassing full, empty, in-use, and in-transit states. A multi-dimensional analysis is conducted, encompassing cost considerations, quality metrics, and improvements in temporal efficiencies. This paper aims to clarify the complexities of both supply chain processes and outline their inherent drawbacks. Furthermore, we conduct a comprehensive risk assessment study to critically evaluate the proposed solution, providing a foundation for potential enhancements.
