The fact that the nervous system plays an important role in cancer is convincingly documented by animal experiments and clinical studies investigating the impact of targeted interference or pathologically disrupted signal transmission between the nervous system and peripheral tissues. Indeed, it has been shown that such disruption of signal transduction can significantly affect both the incidence and progression of cancer (Table 7.1).
