The Specific Colour of Sustainability in the East

Eastern European countries correctly set forth their status and philosophy, test their projects and define their independence within the space and perimeter of the European culture. Their sustainable development project is not entirely of pedigree lineage; it was thought of, as for the other Europeans, by the Brundtland Report. The ”ability” that the mentioned report refers to has a concrete form here, being achievable with local DNA. In addition, the development of the East is forced to take place through a creative destruction that is hurried by the necessity of recovery, brought about by the dependence on an obsolete past that still ”works”. The concerns about rhythmic reprioritisation and rearrangement on a background of new knowledge, the efforts to dishabituate and detach from unproductive inertia and to burn steps so as not to miss the alignment with a settled West and shorten future efforts, these are all circumstances that particularise and give specific colour to the sustainable development in the East.
