摘要

Bees use materials derived from various plant parts, buds, and exudates to create propolis, a resinous combination that is naturally occurring. The waxy and mechanical properties of propolis allow bees to utilize it in building and repairing their hives. It protects against weathering threats like wind and rain and external invaders like snakes and lizards. Bees also use it to seal holes and cracks and smooth out the inside walls. Bees collect propolis from various plants, the most common of which is the poplar tree in regions with a moderate environment. Propolis is now used in antimicrobial formulations for conditions such as cold syndrome, burns, wound healing, herpes simplex, genitals, neurodermatitis, and upper respiratory tract infections. Honeybees create propolis, a resinous combination, using materials gathered from various plant parts, buds, and exudates. The Greek roots of the English term “propolis”—“at the entrance to” and “community” or “city”—indicate that this natural substance is employed for hive defense. Bee glue is another name for propolis.
