Effect of Propolis on Nasal Blockage

The most common manifestation of turbinate dysfunction is nasal congestion, which is also one of the symptoms associated with this condition. In some cases, the symptoms may be mild. In contrast, in others, the congestion may be so severe that the only way to ease it is to overuse topical decongestants such as oxymetazoline or phenylephrine. The fact that the symptoms are not severe is yet another possibility. Quite a few people have tried oral decongestants that are available without a prescription, also known as over-the-counter (OTC) medications, but their results have needed to be consistent. During the management procedure, the two most important processes are identifying the underlying cause of turbinate hypertrophy and the subsequent therapy or correction of the problem following the identification of the cause. The infectious and inflammatory etiologies are the ones that are encountered the most commonly. Raw propolis comprises 50% plant resins, 30% waxes, 10% essential and aromatic oils, 5% pollens, and 5% other organic substances. These organic substances include elements like vitamins A, C, D, E, and B1, B2, B5, and B6, niacin and folate, and some micro and macro minerals. Around 500 different components have been discovered in propolis that comes from a variety of geographical locations. These components include phenolic acids, flavonoids (flavones, flavanones, flavanols, dihydro flavanols, and chalcones), terpenes, lignans, amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. Propolis also contains terpenes.
