摘要

There is a significant cause for worry within the medical community over the growing resistance of microorganisms to antibiotic treatment. The use of specific probiotic strains to inhibit the growth of pathogens due to the release of bacteriocins and the use of phytochemicals that can inhibit biofilms, interfere with bacterial quorum sensing signaling pathways, or act as chelating agents and efflux pump inhibitors are two examples of the innovative strategies that have been proposed as a result of this concern. The “wait and see” strategy is less inventive but pragmatic nonetheless. A wait-and-see approach, in which antibacterial medication is postponed for 48–72 h, has been proposed to treat acute otitis media (AOM) in children. This is primarily due to the growing antibiotic resistance of bacteria that cause respiratory infections.
