This is a short chapter that outlines some of the relationships between geomorphology and cultural geography. At the grossest scale there is a broad relationship between the terrain and the historical development of France as a nation. At a more focussed “landscape” scale there are relationships in rural areas involving agricultural activities, of which vine cultivation is an important French land use.
