Complementary and integrative medical therapies comprise those acceptable health care approaches outside of our conventional medicine. According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) at the National Institute of Health, more than 30% of adults and 12% of children use non-conventional medical therapies. Many complementary and integrative medical therapies can be used in pediatric sedation which include guided imagery, music therapy, hypnotherapy, sucrose sucking in infants, and acupuncture-related techniques. These remedies are underutilized and can be successfully integrated in conjunction with conventional medical treatments for pediatric sedation.
