Next-Generation Graphene-Based Photocatalysts for Purification of Air and Water

摘要

Amid growing concerns about the detrimental effects of air pollution on human health, this chapter sheds light on the potential of graphene-based photocatalysts to combat this issue. By examining the existing photocatalytic materials and systems used for air purification, we can better understand how to harness the power of graphene for cleaner air. Our exploration delves into three key areas. First, removal of nitrogen oxides (NOx), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and carbon monoxide (CO): We first introduce these harmful substances and their negative impacts, followed by a review of traditional and cutting-edge photocatalysts designed to tackle them. Next, we discuss how graphene-based photocatalysts fare in comparison. Second, photodisinfection of pathogens: This section zeroes in on the destruction of disease-causing microorganisms using photocatalysis. After outlining the various types of pathogens and their effects, we assess the efficacy of conventional and advanced photocatalysts. Lastly, we evaluate the performance of graphene-based photocatalysts against their counterparts. Third, future directions and challenges: As we strive for continuous improvement, we examine the prospects and hurdles facing the use of graphene-based photocatalysts in air purification. Here, we explore opportunities for innovation and address the obstacles that must be overcome to ensure widespread implementation.
