Getting Your Bearings

This chapter approaches browsing as an integral part of the research process. It articulates two concepts, “browsing for...” and “reading with accomplishment,” which are applicable to historiography, but also to primary sources and even to looking at theory. Conducting this preliminary survey of what you might look at is a prelude to looking at some things very carefully.
