The rural world is still considered by many to be far removed from the migratory process. The worlds of wine in Bordeaux, in particular, is generally associated with “terroir”, “French identity”, the peasant world, associated with the idea of “French nation” which is constructed in the national storytelling as mono-cultural, one and indivisible. Moreover, this representation is also due to the importance of family farming, still strongly promoted by farmers’ unions. This image of a French wine region was particularly developed after the Second World War and after the independence of Algeria (where was the largest French vineyard). It was necessary to put French agriculture back on its feet and above all to restore letters of nobility to French vineyards. In this context, the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlées were intended to restore the French national identity in a modern way. So migrant agricultural workers are never mentioned in the tourism and commercial heritagisation development process, even though they have increasingly settled in the region on a more permanent basis.
