Same-Day Discharge Following Left Atrial Appendage Closure

As the experience with left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) has grown, the overall safety profile of the procedure has significantly improved. Upon reviewing data from various procedures, taking into account patient satisfaction and cost considerations, it becomes logical to consider same-day discharge (SDD) strategies after LAAC. Numerous studies conducted thus far have assessed the safety and feasibility of SDD. In addition, implementable algorithms have demonstrated success across multiple medical centers, and SDD presents an opportunity for substantial cost savings. Various centers have demonstrated easily implementable protocols to achieve safe SDD after LAAC. Similar to various other cardiac procedures, SDD can be employed as the preferred method of post-procedure disposition for most patients undergoing LAAC.
